Open sound control panel applet
Check if the right device is selected as default (it could be changed by right mouse click)
Integrated laptop mic are normally referred as "realtek", USB eternal mic takes the name of Webcam manufacturer.
If while talking the volume level on right are low, please go to properties to set more amplification
test your mic, online by going on this link
mictests.com (it could be used to test webcam as well)
